CRUSTACEAN - Estuary Fuzz
the CRUSTACEAN is...
a fuzz pedal. The circuit has two gain stages; designed with a combination of transistors and op amps. Sandwiched in-between these gain stages is a simple but effective tone stage. The overall circuit provides a flexible, crusty crunch suitable for many situations. The character of the fuzz comes from a pair of silicon transistors, and reacts dynamically with the volume knob on electric guitars. Even though crustaceans live in mud, this one "cleans-up" really well!
The FUZZ knob sets the amount of amplification applied to the input signal. Fully counter-clockwise: minimal fuzz. Fully clockwise: super crunch.
The VOLUME knob is straight forward, fully counter-clockwise: no sound. Fully clockwise: all the sound and then some.
The tone control, tastefully named SEASONING, gives you a wide range of sonic potential. Dial the SEASONING knob fully counter-clockwise and you get a thick, loud fuzz. Dialed fully clockwise, you get a fat-free, fizzy fuzz.
The footswitch allows you to turn the fuzz on or off. It's wired in a true-bypass configuration. This means that when the blue LED is NOT lit, the signal from the input is going directly to the output.
The IN/OUT jacks are 1/4" mono.
The 9V jack is a 9VDC, center-negative connection. (2.1mm x 5.5mm)
A typical power supply suited for effects pedals will work. This pedal has reverse-polarity protection- so plugging a center-positive type adapter won't blow it up. The pedal draws minimal current, less than 7mA. When there is a power source going the 9V jack- the circuit is powered, even if in bypass/ LED not lit. To turn power off to the pedal, disconnect the power source going into the 9V jack.
